Best Destinations to Travel After the Quarantine

If you’re like me, you’re eagerly awaiting for your next trip abroad. While we are unable to travel right now, that doesn’t mean we should stop dreaming about where we want to go next.

Now is a great time to reflect on past adventures and to look forward to future ones. Where will you be going when it’s safe to travel again? Will it be a roadtrip to avoid air travel? Or are you jumping on the next flight and crossing that bucket list adventure off your list?

I’m sharing my top 5 destinations to visit when it’s safe to travel again and why!

Africa

Over the last few years, Africa has become one of my favorite travel destinations. I have fallen in love with the world-class safari experiences, the incredible landscapes, the diverse cultures and of course, the animals! It sounds cliche, but Africa will change your life. Once you experience Africa, you will understand!

A safari is a great option when travel resumes because most safari lodges and camps limit the total number of guests per night. A lot of properties offer private standalone rooms, which will be a nice option for future travelers. Explore the open savannas of Africa for an incredible experience without the crowds.

Post quarantine, a trip to South Africa would be at the top of my list. South Africa offers a variety of experiences from safaris, to sipping your way through the Cape Winelands, cage diving with great white sharks, hiking Table Mountain and exploring the city of Cape Town. With all there is to do, South Africa is the perfect destination.

Iceland

Iceland is truly one of the most unique places I have ever visited. With stunning landscapes, beautiful waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes, black sand beaches littered with puffins, wild horses, natural hot springs and the northern lights, Iceland has it all.

Renting a car in Reykjavik and doing a self drive around the island is the perfect post quarantine experience. Once out on the road, you will feel like you have the island to yourself. The options are limitless and the scenery is breathtaking.

Maldives

The Maldives are well known for crystal blue waters, swaying palm trees, and sparkling white sand beaches, think paradise! With good weather year round, the Maldives are the ultimate dream of both tranquility and luxury.

While there are many atolls with beautiful properties within the Maldives, I would choose a resort that limits the total number of guests per night and are fully inclusive. If you’re like me, your ready for a break from all the meal planning, cooking and cleaning over the last few months of quarantine. The Maldives make for the perfect tropical escape!

A Road Trip to a U.S. National Park

If you are looking forward to trading in your indoor, social distancing situation for the vast openness of the national parks, here’s a list of my top five parks to visit in the U.S.

Yellowstone National Park

Travelers can get lost in Yellowstone’s lakes, mountains, buffalo-filled valleys, geysers and hot springs. This park stands out for its unique and diverse natural landscape and abundance of wildlife.

Tip: Pair Yellowstone with a trip to Grand Teton National Park & Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Yosemite

California’s most popular national park stands out for its impressive waterfalls, unique rock formations like Half Dome and El Capitan, and breathtaking scenery.

Tip: Try to catch the sunset at Glacier Point

Grand Canyon

One of the natural wonders of the world, this park is one that you have to experience in your lifetime.

Tip: For adventure seekers consider a rim to rim hike.

Zion National Park

Zion is a park for adventure seekers. Filled with iconic hiking trails, spectacular scenic drives, dramatic landscapes, waterfalls, and wildlife. It is a must see!

Tip: Hike Angel Landing and the Narrows for a true adventure.

Glacier National Park

With three mountain ranges and over 700 lakes, water and mountains dominate this Montana national park.

*I’ve actually only visited four of these parks but I have a trip planned to visit Glacier National Park for later this year and I can’t wait to check it out!

A national park road trip offers opportunities to get out in the fresh air, exercise, and avoid large crowds! While there are many beautiful parks to visit across the U.S. these are at the top of my list!

Ireland

I saved my favorite for last! A self-drive along the Wild Atlantic Way will likely be my first trip when international travel resumes.

I’ve found the people of Ireland to be the friendliest in the world. They are so welcoming and will charm you with their wit and humor. After being in quarantine for months, I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than sit in an Irish pub with a pint and laugh with the locals.

Along the Wild Atlantic Way you can expect charming villages, beautiful beaches, rolling green fields lined with stone walls, sheep, jaw-dropping cliffs and an endless number of castles to explore. Visiting the west coast of Ireland provides the perfect opportunity to spend time outdoors, with limited crowds. Stop into an Irish pub along the way for a pint by a roaring fire and a local trad session.

Although we can’t travel now, never stop dreaming!
